Trigger was the name of Roy Rogers trusted companion, his horse.  The fact that Willie Nelson chose that name for his guitar is a natural given his country/western heritage.  So, maybe what is unusual about the whole deal is the guitar itself: a nylon string Martin guitar.  Okay, let’s name all the famous gut string players: Segovia, Charlie Byrd, and…and…and…Willie Nelson!
