With the recent announcement that Apple iLife '09 will no longer support full PowerPC Mac platforms—including GarageBand ‘09’s new “Learn to Play” pro/celebrity music instruction feature—comes an alternate solution for guitarists: iPerform3D 3D Guitar Learning System. IP3D offers a guitar/user-friendly-solution with that supports both PC and Mac platforms.

The newly launched IP3D Guitar Learning System uses motion-capture and 3D animation technology. This marks the first time that sophisticated motion-capture technology—previously limited to big-budget film and video game companies like Sony and Electronic Arts—is available beyond rarified videogame and entertainment circles via a patented application of the technology. Unlike DVDs or online video lessons, this system gives guitarists complete control, allowing them to rotate and zoom the “virtual” camera to any angle, even “behind” and “through” the instructor’s guitar neck. iPerform3D technology also allows guitarists to slow lessons down without changing pitch, or loop a riff or song section as required until it’s mastered.

What CNET.com says about iPerform3D:
“Learn how to play guitar in your browser (in 3D): Apple's Macworld announcement about professional and celebrity music instruction as part of GarageBand '09 may have been impressive, but what might be a little more eye catching (and ultimately useful) is iPerform3D. This browser-based music learning system shows users how to play guitar in 3D, and works on both Macs and PCs... iPerform3D eschews A-list music celebrities like Sting and Sarah McLachlan in place of guitar-playing veterans who have undergone motion capture recording of their entire bodies (fingers especially) to teach you various lessons. To learn, you get control of a 3D video player that lets you change vantage points, as well as slow down or speed up the lesson.”
