Artist News: Less than a year after it led the Times of London to celebrate “a new sound that is both studied and inspired,” Jesca Hoop’s....

sophomore album will receive its anticipated American release July 27th on Vanguard Records. Titled Hunting My Dress, the stunning collection finds the California native meditating on her recent move to Manchester, England, where Hoop received a heroine’s welcome thanks in part to an endorsement by one of her most devoted fans, Guy Garvey of the widely respected U.K. rock act Elbow. Garvey contributes guest vocals to one cut, “Murder of Birds.”

With its off-kilter mixture of rootsy folk guitars, intricate vocal harmonies and avant-rock atmospherics, Hunting My Dress has earned comparisons to such musical luminaries as Kate Bush, PJ Harvey and Björk. Yet Hoop undoubtedly writes from her own unique perspective, informed by a childhood spent singing traditional songs in a Mormon family and by several years of cross-country travel with a group of Grateful Dead fans.

American fans will get the chance to see Hoop perform material from Hunting My Dress when the singer takes part in this summer’s revived Lilith Fair tour: August 3 in Washington, D.C., and August 4 in Raleigh, N.C. Hoop will support the album with a full North American tour with further details to be announced.
